Argumentative Deliberation for Autonomous Agents
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents an argumentation based framework, developed as an extension of an existing framework for nonmonotonic reasoning, in order to support an agent’s self deliberation process. The framework allows the agent to draw conclusions taking into account in a natural way a given preference policy. After developing the argumentation framework we examine two general cases of such argumentative deliberation: (a) under a preference policy that takes into account the roles agents can have within a context pertaining to an environment of interaction and (b) under a preference policy for the current needs of the agent emerging from his profile. In the first case we apply the argumentative deliberation model within a simple agent interaction scenario where each agent’s selfdeliberation determines, according to his own policy, his position at each step of the interaction process. In the second case we apply the framework to model motivational factors that apparently drive human behaviors and therefore can define agent personalities. Agents will thus similarly, as it is claimed in psychological literature for human beings, chose at any moment to pursue, those goals that are most compatible with their current motivations. The proposed argumentation framework allows us to define policy preferences at different levels of deliberation resulting in modular representations of the agent’s knowledge or personality profile. This high degree of modularity gives a simple computational model in which the agent’s deliberation can be naturally implemented.

Argumentative Agent Deliberation, Roles and Context
This paper presents an argumentation based framework to support an agent’s deliberation process for drawing conclusions under a given policy. The argumentative policy of the agent is able to take into account the roles agents can have within a context pertaining to an environment of interaction. The framework uses roles and context to define policy preferences at different levels of deliberatio...

Talking it out with others vs. deliberation within and the law of group polarization: Some implications of the argumentative theory of reasoning for deliberative democracy. This paper argues that a new psychological theory—the argumentative theory of reasoning—provides theoretical support for the discursive, dialogical ideal of democratic deliberation. It converges, in particular, with delibera...
متن کاملModeling Multiagent Deliberation from an Abstract Standpoint
Simply put, a multiagent system can be understood as a collection of autonomous agents able to accomplish as a whole goals beyond the capabilities of any of its members. The traditional example depicts a heavy armchair that can be easily lifted by coordinating the effort of a group of persons despite that none of them would have been able to pick it up alone. Thus, one might argue that precisel...
متن کاملAgent deliberation in an executable temporal framework
Autonomous agents are not so difficult to construct. Constructing autonomous agents that will work as required is much harder. A clear way in which we can design and analyze autonomous systems so that we can be more confident that their behaviour is as required is to use formal methods. These can, in principle, allow us to exactly specify the behaviour of the agent, and verify that any implemen...
متن کاملTesting the benefits of structured argumentation in multi-agent deliberation dialogues
Work on argumentation-based dialogue systems often assumes that the adoption of argumentation leads to improved dialogue efficiency and effectiveness. Several studies have taken an experimental approach to prove these alleged benefits, but none has yet supported the expressiveness of a structured argumentation logic. This paper shows how the use of argumentation in deliberation style dialogues ...
